Out My Window
February 4, 2005

I

Small, white cat
chasing pigeons
bigger than it is.

II

This week, they put
a new water meter
in front of my place.
A trench to other curb
is now filled with fresh,
lightly packed asphalt.

The pigeons feed on
the seed across the way.
Small, young white cat
"sneaks" along the very
black asphalt and
crouches five feet from birds.

A lady in SUV comes up
and pauses.
The cat makes a rush
and runs off as birds fly up.
They land in front of the truck.
She honks.
They fly.
She goes.
Sun shines past the clouds.
