Tuco has Lunch
At the bookstore, Tuco sat reading, and
noticed movement through the shelves to his left.
He watched her move along the bookcase.
She stood lean, intent,
with hair short, salt and pepper.
She glanced his way
as she reached for a book.
He sees a ring showing.
Later, her daughter and little girl join her.
They wander out toward the checkout.
He watches them, likes the scene.
Then returns to his book
wishing there was no ring.
Later Tuco heads for the sandwich shop next door.
It's crowded with folks lunching before the booksigning at 2.
He orders, seeks a table. Finds none.
So he asks a fellow if he can share the table.
Then, as his sandwich comes,
he sees the trio moving behind him.
Finishing his sandwich, he glances left,
toward the booths beneath windows.
She's there with her brood.
Looking back at him.
He shifts his glance quickly.
Wishing for no ring, and
for meeting one to one.
