Owl came around the mesquite to find
Coyoté was pulling crayons out of the box,
looking at them
then throwing them in the stream.

Owl just stopped,
watched.
Coyoté was muttering too low for Owl to hear.

Then Coyoté flung the empty crayon box in the water
and sat back,
still muttering.

Owl walked up.
Coyoté glanced up
then back at the stream.
Owl says, "What's up?"
Coyoté shades his eyes as he turns.
"The box didn't come with an eraser."

Owl just stared at him,
perplexed,
speechless.
