Reaping the Whirlwind.

I love Bette Davis eyes,
I fall into them.
The problem is
behind Bette Davis eyes
is Bette Davis.

To look back is to relax one’s vigil.
Bette Davis
Tuco listened as she spoke,
"Love is not enough.

It must be the foundation, the cornerstone —
but not the complete structure.
It is much too pliable,
too yielding."

What was there he could say?
He had dreamed of other words.
Now, it did not matter. Yes,
love is not enough.
Unless held by both.
Then it finds everything it needs,
builds the house of cards
sturdy as steel,
pliant as water,
brilliant as diamond
and equally tough.

But,
unanchored at both ends
it is a tornado
blowing through the heart.

Tuco turned,
walked away,
the wind still whistling in his ears.
