Sea Change

We winter by warm seas
watch gulls fly
over the sand and waves
think we are so clear
in our conscience
when we are merely calm
calm in our affluent peace

We sail on mirror lakes
fish in calm seas
catch bright colored creatures
that enthrall us with their iridescence

While the lame fisherman sits
hidden in reeds
waiting for the scruffy fish to glide by
feeding in muddy water

He waits without wanting
knows no hunger

For he has never been full.
